Mind Over Boulder
8-week bouldering course for mental wellbeing
We’re excited to announce the launch of our new 8-week bouldering for mental wellbeing course, taking place at The Climbing Hangar in Plymouth next month. Delivered in collaboration with experienced coaches, this course offers a small-group format designed to support both physical activity and mental wellbeing.
The aim of the course is to help individuals explore the many benefits of bouldering — from stress reduction and increased confidence, to improved resilience and overall wellbeing. Each session will explore the basics of indoor climbing without ropes, alongside practical wellbeing strategies that can be carried into everyday life.
Over the 8 weeks, you’ll be supported to develop a sustainable climbing practice that can continue beyond the course, whether independently or as part of a community, or as a positive form of self-care and holistic health. The course will be led by the participants’ ability and will begin in the quiet, relaxed area, providing a low-sensory, confidence-building space, before moving into the main climbing area as the group feels ready.
Join our supportive new course to build confidence, learn the basics of bouldering, meet new people, and explore strategies for positive mental wellbeing.

Still unsure about rock climbing?
First-time climbing can be a daunting experience, so here are some myth-busters to help put your mind at ease if you are still on the fence.
You don't need upper body strength. Your legs do most of the work during your early climbs, and you'll develop the strength you need as you practice.
Everyone's facing the same challenges, whatever their level. Balance, height, strength, flexibility, and potential fear are just part of the experience.
You don’t have to be training for outdoor climbs to get involved. Indoor climbing can be a hobby and is an activity in its own right.
Everyone's been where you are — and they're all on your side. The competition in bouldering is just with yourself. Bouldering is a sociable sport, and the group will be there to cheer you on and offer support.
Please note: You do not have to be of any particular level of fitness to join this course. The course is designed for beginners, and there is an array of climbing challenges for every ability level.
