Recovery Practitioner — Physical Activity

Type: Part-time (22.5 hours/week) • Salary: £15,300 per annum (£25,500 pro-rata) • Location: Plymouth • Term: 24-months • Closes: When filled

Are you looking for an exciting new role supporting people to improve their mental health through physical activity? We are looking to recruit a part-time Recovery Practitioner (22.5 hours/week) to join our team! These hours can be worked flexibly over the week.

Devon Mind is dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of our service users through physical activity and wellness programs. We believe in the transformative power of physical activity to improve mental and physical health, and we strive to create inclusive and engaging programs for all abilities.

About the role:

Recovery Practitioners offer support to people experiencing a variety of mental health difficulties, working with people to improve their emotional wellbeing and develop additional coping skills, that in turn enable people to work towards their goals and support their recovery. Our Recovery Practitioners are responsible for providing a range of interventions and wider support for service users. This includes 1:1 support, delivering courses, groups, and workshops, and linking in with other local services and activities.

This role will develop and deliver a range of physical activity programmes aimed at improving the overall wellbeing of our service users. This will include group activities such as walking, running, swimming (and others). The role will also work closely with partner agencies to develop joint offers for service users (such as Plymouth Argyle Community Trust; South West Coastal Path; local fitness and exercise groups). The main aim of this work is supporting our service-users to access physical activity in a way that helps them to develop new coping strategies (reducing stress, boosting mood, alleviating anxiety), while also fostering social relationships and new connections with peers.

We are especially keen to hear from people who are passionate about the role that physical activity plays in supporting mental health and general wellbeing.
