Staff Spotlight: Working in Partnership to Support Recovery
This month, we're shining a spotlight on one of our Recovery Practitioners, James, and celebrating the achievements of the Eastern Community Rehabilitation and Recovery Service, which recently received the Together Award at the 2026 Pride of DPT Awards.
James is a Devon Mind Recovery Practitioner who supports our work and projects within the Devon Mental Health Alliance. Since joining the Eastern Community Rehabilitation and Recovery Service at Wonford House in Exeter in 2023, he has played a key role in supporting people to reconnect with their communities and build confidence as part of their ongoing recovery journey.
Working closely with colleagues across Devon Partnership Trust and local community organisations, James helps people engage with activities that reflect their individual interests, strengths and aspirations. Every care plan is tailored to the individual, helping to overcome practical barriers such as housing, finances and access to local services, while encouraging meaningful connections that support long-term recovery. This co-production approach enables clients to shape activities, pathways, and improvements and has led to the development of walking, cycling and swimming groups, alongside a 10-week Music Production Programme and the Creative Minds Art and Poetry Exhibition, showcasing work created by service users, carers, and family members.
Earlier this month, the annual Pride of DPT Awards celebrated the individuals and teams across Devon Partnership Trust who go above and beyond to support patients, carers, staff and local communities. With more than 290 nominations, the awards recognise outstanding compassion, innovation and collaboration.
At the ceremony, held at Westpoint Arena on 8 July, the Eastern Community Rehabilitation and Recovery Service Team received the Together Award for championing meaningful involvement and inclusion of people using their services, as well as carers and families. Judges praised the team's collaborative approach, innovative community initiatives and commitment to breaking down barriers and challenging traditional ways of working to deliver truly person-centred care.
Congratulations to James and the entire team on this well-deserved recognition. We are incredibly proud of the difference they continue to make in supporting people across Devon on their recovery journeys.
