New online self-help course launching

We are pleased to announce the launch of a brand new online course which will run for the first time next month. Do You Really Know Your Own Mind?is based on the popular book The Chimp Paradox, written by Professor Steve Peters, which shares tips for effective ‘mind management’. The book is based on “the Chimp Model”, which sees the brain as divided into three ‘teams’: the logical-thinking ‘human,’ the emotional-thinking ‘chimp,’ and a computer.

The new course will be Devon Mind’s first to run digitally following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, which has led to unprecedented demand for our services and a number of changes to delivery. All counselling sessions have also moved online, as well as a limited number of support groups. The course will be run by Paula Hole, one of our most seasoned mental health practitioners, who has over 40 years’ experience as a nurse and a counsellor.

The new course will be delivered remotely using Zoom.

Set to be delivered on Zoom over the course of four 1-hour sessions, “Do You Really Know Your Own Mind?” will take place for the first time from 12pm to 1pm on Wednesday 10th, 17th and 24th February, and 3rd March 2021. The aim of the course is to help participants understand how our minds work. The four sessions will explore a number of ideas to help us train our ‘chimp brain’ and gradually shift our thinking towards listening more to the ‘human brain’.

“Supporting people to better understand their emotions and thoughts is a pathway to better mental health,” said Devon Mind CEO, Olivia Craig. “We hope that the learnings from this course enable people to feel more confident in developing and using a new set of skills to manage their mental health challenges.”
