Devon Mind chosen for the Firework Championships, volunteers needed

We are delighted to announce that Devon Mind has been selected as the charity partner of the 2021 British Firework Championships in Plymouth! The event, which returns this summer after a one-year absence due to the pandemic, is a staple of the local events calendar and regularly attracts tens of thousands of viewers.

Every year, hosts Plymouth City Council (PCC) and The Event Services Association (TESA) choose a local charity to sell programmes for the event, for a minimum recommended donation of £1 each. This year, in light of the increased need for mental health support services in the wake of coronavirus, Devon Mind was chosen.

The 2021 British Firework Championships will take place on the evenings of Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th August, and we will be present on both nights. Volunteers and staff will be selling programmes on Plymouth Hoe and in nearby areas, as well as setting up a small gazebo for anyone who would like to find out more about the services we offer, and how you can support us or get involved with our work. Just look out for the dashing bright blue Devon Mind-branded T-shirts and come say hello!

Andre Pusey, Marketing & Fundraising Officer at Devon Mind, commented about the partnership: “We are super grateful to PCC and TESA for choosing Devon Mind to work with at this year’s British Firework Championships. To be involved with such a hugely well-known and widely-enjoyed event is a privilege, especially after a year without the event. We look forward to speaking with local people about the mental health support services we offer and how they can join the fight for mental health in Devon!”
