Devon Mind chosen as supported Charity Partner for 2026 Global Challenge!
We are delighted to share that Devon Mind has been selected as a supported charity partner for the brand-new WorldStar 2026 sailing event hosted by The Royal Western Yacht Club (RWYC).
The exciting new round-the-world yacht race is scheduled to commence at 12 noon on Saturday, 26 September 2026. The event is open to solo and double-handed boats between 35 and 60 feet and will start and finish in Plymouth Sound. The course is a non-stop circumnavigation challenge, with participants heading south and then westward, around the Three Great Capes.
The RWYC created this event to appeal to sailors who want to circumnavigate in their own boats, offering an alternative to more extensive qualification processes. The club is committed to giving back to the Devon community and is planning on engaging and introducing school children to the world of sailing, alongside working with their supported charities.
We are extremely grateful to be involved with such a unique event that will have global reach and raise the profile of Plymouth. We are looking forward to working closely with RWYC to be able to offer exciting opportunities to get involved with the local sailing community and sharing the physical and mental challenges endured by those participating in the once in a lifetime challenge.
“At the Royal Western Yacht Club, we’re proud to have Devon Mind as one of our partner charities for WorldStar. Mental wellbeing is vital for everyone, but it’s especially resonant in the world of solo and double-handed sailing—where resilience, self-reliance, and emotional strength are constantly tested. Supporting mental health doesn’t just mean helping in times of crisis; it means celebrating the inner strength that drives people to take on great challenges. Partnering with Devon Mind reflects our belief that just as we train the body for endurance, we must also support and strengthen the mind. Together, we can chart a course toward healthier horizons for all.”
Race ambassador and round the world sailor, Guy Waites said, “This is for the adventurer, for the sailor who aspires to the ultimate challenge… short-handed, non-stop, around the world via the 3 great capes. An event with clear guidelines, an event to facilitate your dream in, quite possibly, the boat you already own.”
