Calm Your Mind: Understanding Anxiety

Two workshops introducing strategies to manage anxiety

Workshop overview:

Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety from time to time, but not everyone’s experiences will be exactly the same. Understanding Anxiety and Starting to Manage Anxiety are two consecutive workshops that will help you to gain an understanding of what anxiety is and why you might experience these feelings at any particular time, sometimes for no obvious reason. The workshops will provide some basic guidance on learning simple techniques to manage anxiety, and provide attendees the opportunity to discuss what has worked for them.

Session 1: An Introduction to Understanding Anxiety

During the session, we will explore some theories around where anxiety comes from, how it presents, and we will introduce some ideas around reducing anxiety, and provide attendees with an online resource list for exploration between sessions. This workshop aims to involve attendees as much as possible in the discussions that arise.

Session 2: Starting to Manage Anxiety

During the second session, we will introduce some established techniques that have been proven useful in helping others manage their anxiety. There will also be an opportunity to share and discuss what has worked in your own experiences. This workshop aims to facilitate conversation with attendees about strategies and techniques that have helped manage anxiety and calm their minds.

Workshop format:

Calm Your Mind: Understanding Anxiety is a set of two workshops consisting of 2 x 1-hour online sessions. In order to get the most from the experience, it is necessary to attend both sessions. The workshop is hosted by our Recovery Practitioner staff and Support Volunteers, who will guide attendees through presentations focused on anxiety. The online format will include discussion through group chat, breakout rooms, text chat, and we will allow time for questions. A member of staff will be available on Teams 30 minutes before the start of the sessions to support with any technical difficulties. This workshop is free to attend, and registration is required to join.
