12-week Couch to 5K programme
We are excited to share a new date for our Couch to 5K group starting in January 2026. The 12-week programme will be taking place in Central Park on Tuesday evenings and is aimed at individuals who want to enhance their mental wellbeing through physical activity.
The weekly sessions will provide a supportive environment, one that is friendly and inclusive, to help you work towards your goals. Whether your aim is to reduce stress, improve your mood, run a 5K, or meet new people. The programme will take you from Couch to 5K in 12 weeks, giving you the confidence to keep going, join a parkrun, or continue to run independently.
Are you looking to start running but not sure where to begin? Want some friendly faces to keep you company?
No experience needed
Walkers, joggers, and run-walkers welcome
Meet new people, move your body, and feel good
Please note: you do not need to have any experience running or be at a certain level of fitness to attend. However, we advise that you need to be able to walk for 20 minutes before joining.
Our beginner-friendly run group will be led by a qualified run coach, alongside Devon Mind staff. Previous course feedback:
“I wanted to try and do some consistent running, and I have got to the point where I can run for at least 15 minutes consecutively, so that is good progress. I didn’t think too much about the social side, so it has been a bonus to talk to different people. It has been inspiring to meet the course facilitator — she is an amazing person.”
“Take the plunge, ‘don’t be afraid’. I’ve met some lovely people (including mentors) and my confidence has risen lots.”
“I would never have completed 5K in my life without the support of this wonderful, supportive group.”
“I came to the group to experience group running. I found it great to have a set time to put in my diary and some accountability. The group was well organised and provided an excellent balance between encouraging progress and accepting the different abilities and the external factors which have presented challenges for group members...”
