Peri Plodders is a support group with a difference, we aim to introduce the benefits of walking for women who are experiencing symptoms of perimenopause and beyond.
Perimenopause is a time of hormonal shifts, which can happen up to 10 years prior to menopause, that can trigger a variety of physical and emotional symptoms including fatigue, lower cognitive function, aching muscles and joints, weight gain, hot flushes, anxiety, depression and mood swings. Women who have experienced a Perinatal Mood or Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) are at an increased risk of depression and anxiety during perimenopause. Research has shown that being physically active, and especially walking, can improve cognitive function, aid sleep, and reduce hot flushes, anxiety, and depression. However, many women can be worried about making their symptoms worse.
Peri Plodders is a free walking group for anyone impacted by perimenopause or menopause. The group aims to increase confidence and awareness of the benefits of being physically active during and post perimenopause, as well as building peer support, having fun and reducing the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.
The 1-hour evening walk is led by one of our Recovery Practitioners who is a qualified Occupational Therapist and Exercise specialist. After the walk, there will be an opportunity to have a drink and a chat.
