Love your local Mind
Local Mind Week takes place in the first week of August each year, and it’s a time to celebrate the strength, dedication, and impact of the local Minds across England, Wales, and the Channel Islands. #LocalMindWeek is an opportunity to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the life-changing work happening across the network. The campaign was developed as a way of helping local supporters, donors, and service users better understand how local Minds operate as a key part of the Mind federation.
Did you know that Devon Mind is an independent charity?
Devon Mind, like all local Minds, is run by local people, for local people. We’re proud to be a part of the Mind family, united by a shared vision to ensure that no one has to face a mental health difficulty alone. We raise our own funds and have our own board of trustees, who are responsible for how we run. Being truly local means we understand our communities, so we provide services that people need locally. We’re also responsible for our own governance and awareness-raising efforts.
Whilst we share a name, mission, and values, national Mind and the 100 local Minds like us all operate in different, complementary ways. We share knowledge, ideas, and learn from each other, together working under the Mind umbrella to support over 660,000 people yearly with their mental health and wellbeing in their local communities.
What is the difference between national Mind and a local Mind?
National Mind doesn’t deliver front-line services directly, but their work helps shape a better environment for everyone affected by mental health. Based in London, the charity leads the fight for better mental health for all by:
National campaigning and advocacy: Pushing for changes in government policy, raising awareness of mental health issues, and fighting stigma across society.
Research and information: Producing trusted mental health resources, research reports, and helplines used across the country.
Supporting the local network: Providing guidance, branding, and infrastructure support to local Minds.
By supporting your local Mind, you directly contribute to our ability to help reach more people living in Devon struggling with their mental health. Our services help thousands of people across our county each year, and we couldn’t do it without the generous support from our community. We’re here to help anyone who needs us and can support people’s mental health in many different ways — from support groups to courses and workshops, our flagship counselling service, community-based wellbeing activities, and linking with other local organisations to ensure all-round care.
If you, or someone you know needs support, we’re #YourLocalMind. Devon Mind is here to listen, advise, and help you take the first steps to a life with better mental health.
Help us be here for our communities across Devon, now and in the future. You can help enable us to do more locally by making a donation or fundraising for us.
