Mindful Movement

6-week course to help improve your physical and mental wellbeing

Course overview:

The main aim of Mindful Movement is to raise participants’ awareness of healthier lifestyles to support overall wellbeing. During the course, we will explore the importance of being more active, having a balanced diet, and how to stay well in the long term, whilst demonstrating how this can directly improve mental health and wellbeing.

Over the 6 weeks, we will consider the benefits of physical activity on our mental wellbeing, along with exploring food groups, healthy eating, and setting SMART goals. We will also show how to overcome barriers to exercise and deal with setbacks and will touch on other related topics such as alcohol awareness, aerobic, strength, and flexibility training, and the importance of support from other people. Each session will include a short inclusive activity that promotes movement, for example, a walk around Central Park, or a low-impact activity within the Hub.

  • Week 1 Introduction and overview of the course, exploring the importance of physical activity to health and wellbeing, step counts, and activity.

  • Week 2 Exploring the barriers to being more active, motivation and confidence, SMART goals, REP scale, and activity.

  • Week 3 Influences on food choices and understanding food labels and what we are eating, and activity.

  • Week 4 Exploring common ideas about healthy living, dealing with setbacks, energy balance, and activity.

  • Week 5 Developing strength and flexibility, reflections, and activity.

  • Week 6 Group physical activity (to be agreed with participants)
