Two local raffles raise over £1,000 combined for Devon Mind!

Over the last week, we were fortunate enough to attend two local raffles organised to benefit Devon Mind. Combined, the raffles raised an incredible £1,024.41 to help support the fight for mental health in Devon!

Here are a couple of brief reports from the two events, along with some lovely photos…

Thursday 1st July 2021: Cockington Court Summer Open Evening, Torquay

First up, on Thursday 1st July 2021 we were welcomed to the beautiful Cockington Court country park in Torquay for their Summer Open Evening. Aptly titled ‘Meet Our Makers’, the event ran from 5pm to 8pm and saw the numerous creative businesses and studios opening their doors for visitors past their normal hours, demonstrating their various crafts and providing special offers for customers. The celebration also featured entertainment from multiple performers, a BBQ and more.

As part of their Summer Open Evening, each of the businesses at Cockington Court donated a prize to be won as part of a winner-takes-all raffle — based on the combined total of each product’s recommended retail price, the prize was valued at over £1,000! The raffle attracted over 300 entries from visitors to the site, raising a total of £624.10 in aid of Devon Mind. The lucky winner was Helen Thorn, who collected her amazing prize on Friday and was said to be “delighted” with the haul.

Everyone at Devon Mind would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved with the Cockington Court raffle, including Nicola and Andy Bouchard from MooBoo Home, Cockington Court Centre Director Marissa Wakefield, everyone who helped sell raffle tickets on the day, and all the generous contributors to the raffle in aid of Devon Mind.

Saturday 3rd July 2021: Trevor Walker Memorial Charity Match, Plymouth

Once we’d recovered from the festivities of Thursday night, we were back on the road again for Saturday’s Trevor Walker Memorial Charity Match, which took place at the Manadon Sports & Community Hub in Plymouth. Organised by friends, family and former colleagues of Trevor Walker, a local football referee who tragically died in March 2018, the match saw Richard’s Rogues take on Simon’s Saints in what was dubbed the ‘Battle of the Titan(ic)s’.

The spirited game, officiated by former colleagues of Trevor’s and spectated by hosts of his friends and family members, finished 6—3 to Richard’s team. After the match, a stream of winners were drawn for various raffle prizes, and trophies were presented to both teams and the players of the match. Trevor’s widow Mandie was also presented with a special ball signed by all the players and officials, as well as a commemorative framed shirt from his days as a referee.

We were blown away by the support of everyone in attendance, which resulted in total donations to Devon Mind of £400.31 from raffle entries and direct contributions. We are honoured to have been selected to share in such an important and special day as this year’s charity partner.

Everyone at Devon Mind would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in the Trevor Walker Memorial Match, including Simon Mann for organising the event, Mandie Walker and Trevor’s family for allowing us to play a part in their special day, and everyone else who competed in, officiated, or spectated the match.
